About the event
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is the first Black Fraternity founded on the campus of an HBCU. Every year we hold a Talent Hunt competition that highlights the talents of high school-aged students. The Talent Hunt program of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is one of several national programs designed to identify and support the youth of our nation and the world. Due to COVID-19, we are doing a Virtual Talent Hunt. It will be held on February 20, 2021 via Zoom as part of the Black History Education Conference.
The categories for competition are as follows:
- Semi Classical Instrumental Solo
- Classical Instrumental Solo
- Semi Classical Vocal Solo
- Classic Vocal Solo
- Dramatic Interpretation
- Dance
- Visual Arts
It must be noted that students must record themselves performing with no video or audio editing. Recorded entries are due by Feb. 13th. The entry form is attached to this email. Once the form is filled out, we will send them instructions on how to submit their performance.
Last year we gave out a total of $800 in scholarships at the local level alone from this competition. One of the local winners, East High's own Yani Thoronka, came away with our first place award of $500. Last year's competition had 9 performers. We are looking to increase that number this year. This event can align well with students who are already performing a solo piece that fits within the criteria of the Talent Hunt competition. Please distribute this information to anyone who may benefit from the competition. They can contact me at 1911Cardiiaq@gmail.com
